900MP portraits show human face in extreme detail

Well, I can definitely see applications in science – ultra high resolution recording of type-specimens and museum objects come to mind. In art, I can see some curatorial processes such as restoration and authentication benefiting from this sort of imaging.

Also, although the images linked here are being dismissed as ‘boring passport photos’ by some, it’s possible (probable even) that they will come to be seen as works of art at some point. I mean, Gursky’s “Rhein II” is quite valuable now, so…

How about the creation of very detailed panoramas for teaching, study, or simple entertainment.
