British Journal of Photography partners with Magnum Photos’ educational arm

As part of both company’s ongoing commitment to the career development of photographers, British Journal of Photography will work with the participants of Magnum Photos’ international workshop program, to showcase selected portfolios online.

Initiated in 2007 as part of Magnum’s 60th year anniversary celebrations, Magnum’s workshop programs provide opportunities for photographers at different stages in their careers to benefit from the vast experience of Magnum’s established photographers. Workshops offer practical, technical and theoretical advice to help participants develop their own visual language and the skills required to compete in photography’s changing marketplace.

As part of this new exposure partnership, British Journal of Photography will work with each Magnum tutor to identify a deserving workshop participant, who will enjoy a special online feature of their work accompanied by an interview.

With a global social reach of more than 160,000 and with an extensive professional readership, British Journal of Photography is the perfect platform for photographers to showcase their work to both a consumer and commissioning audience. The online articles will also be featured on Magnum’s Education web pages and promoted via its 1 million strong social media audience, generating a huge visibility potential.

Fiona Rogers, Magnum’s Cultural & Education Manager, says: “Magnum Photos and British Journal of Photography are dedicated to promoting the new generation of documentary photographers. This partnership provides the perfect global exposure for photographers and strengthens Magnum’s educational offer.”

Olivier Laurent, acting deputy editor at British Journal of Photography, adds: “We delighted to partner with an agency of Magnum Photos’ caliber. Its educational programme is an inspiring initiative and we look forward to showcasing the work of amateurs, emerging and professional photographers alike.”

The partnership will begin in October 2013 with a feature of photography from the Magnum Workshop Delhi, chosen by tutors Raghu Rai and Abbas. It will be followed by a selected portfolio from Stuart Franklin, acquired from his September event in Paris.
