CP+ 2015: Hands-on with Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD

That depends. The 14-24 has been out for a LOOONG time, and various 16-35s or similar have been out for quite a while. Tamron has had a lot of time to study to get the design right. Tamron is “hit or miss” like Sigma. While Sigma has upped their game with the “ART” designation helping consumers weed through the dogs, Tamron is still in their early 2000s mode (hit or miss). Keep your eye on this lens (image samples, quality assurance, firmware issues, AF problems, etc). I wouldn’t buy it in the first 6 months. But if it performs solid for 6 months (on other guy’s dimes) then consider it strongly. Sometimes a Tamron is a DAMN GOOD lens. Sometimes its a total turd. This one looks like its going to be at least a good value for the price!

If this was TOKINA, I wouldn’t even look at it, as they seem to be occupying budget fully now (or am I wrong?), whereas Sigma is attempting to make the leap to high end, and Tamron is riding in the space between.
