Firecracker Photographic Grant calling for entries

Launched by Fiona Rogers in January 2011, the Firecracker platform is dedicated to supporting European women photographers. “During my career in photography, the under-representation of women photographers struck me on several levels,” says Rogers, who is also the cultural and education manager at Magnum Photos London.

The Firecracker Photographic Grant is an annual award that provides around £1000 for the completion of a documentary photographic project, as well as £1000 worth of professional printing, mounting and framing services from Genesis Imaging.

Last year, photographer Jo Metson Scott received the inaugural grant for her project The Grey Line. “Receiving the Firecracker grant was a huge endorsement for me and for a piece of work I’d been struggling to find the right platform for,” says Metson Scott. “The award gave the work great visibility and the grant itself, as well as the support from Genesis, was instrumental in the final stages of bringing the work together as a book.”

Applications are open to women photographers born or residing in Europe and submissions are judged by an independent panel of industry specialists from a cross section of disciplines and sectors.

Deadline for entry is 28 July.
