Institute adds Michal Chelbin

Michal Chelbin is a regular contributor to publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, GQ, The Guardian and Le Monde, among others. She is based near Tel Aviv in Israel and her work forms part of private and public collections at The Metropolitan, the Getty Museum LA and the Tel Aviv Museum.

She is the fourth photographer to join the Institute in as many months – Riverboom, Alexander Gronsky and Rafal Milach signed up with the Los Angeles and London-based agency in autumn 2012.

“Institute is very keen to keep the number of artists the company represents to around 20 and so we are supportive of productive artists who create stunning work that fits in with our aesthetic,” executive director Matt Shonfeld tells BJP. “We’re doing extremely well – editorially we have photographed well over 100 cover stories for magazines since our launch on 01 January 2010. “We’re also exhibiting more, thanks to Anna-Maria Pfab’s appointment as cultural manager. We have also bagged several commercial assignments this year, which is very exciting.”

He adds: “Our vision in the early days was to represent world-class visual storytellers, showcasing the calibre of these few artists across multiple platforms – print, web, tablet, television, cinema. Institute is doing very much what we set out to do.”
