Maja Daniels wins Contour by Getty Images Portrait Prize

Maja Daniels won the Contour by Getty Images Portrait Prize after being selected from among 721 applicants – the most entries ever received for a Getty Images grant, claims the stock agency, which has been running the Grants for Editorial Photography for the past eight years.

The Portrait Prize was launched this year after Getty Images restructured its grants programme, cutting the Editorial prizes from $20,000 to $10,000 and introducing the Portrait Prize while continuing to support the Chris Hondros Fund Award.

Daniels will received a $10,000 cash prize and will see her work exhibited at the Polka Galerie in Paris, France. She was selected for her exploration of “what she believes to be a lack of visual representation of issues relating to older generations with the series Mady and Monette, which follows a pair of identical twins in their sixties as they traverse the streets and the stage (as performers) of Paris,” say the judges.

“I am thrilled to have been chosen for this prize,” says Daniels in a press statement. “It has now been three years that I have known and photographed Mady and Monette and the more time we spend together the more rewarding and interesting this project becomes.”
