Minox announces tiny, retro-styled DCC 14.0 camera

Share:

Minox has quietly released a new 14 Megapixel version of their minature ‘Digital Classic Camera’. The DCC features the same retro ‘spy camera’ design as Minox cameras from the 1950’s, just with digital guts, instead of a roll of film. This $239, 14 Megapixel point-and-shoot literally fits in the palm of your hand, though similarly priced (albeit larger) compact cameras offer a lot more bang for the buck.

The DCC 14.0 is available in silver… … and black.

Some of the highlights on the DCC 14.0 include:

  • 14.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor
  • F2.4, 7.35mm fixed focal length lens (41mm equiv.)
  • Galilean-style optical viewfinder (removable)
  • 2.0″ LCD display
  • Fully automatic operation
  • VGA movie recording
  • Optional ‘Classic Camera Flash’ and conversion lenses
  • Powered by single lithium-ion battery
  • 82mm x 67mm x 46mm (W x H x D)
  • Weighs 4 oz / 113.5 g

I still have a 35 GT somewhere :)

This… nahh

facedodge

OMG is that a RED DOT? I’ll take three.

h2k

Is the style and the word “retro” so captivating that you don’t mention the sensor size in the news text?

micksh6

The sensor size can be derived from lens info. 5.6x crop factor – typical for basic compacts.

jeffkeller

There was nothing official from Minox but I’m working on getting that information and updating the news item.

Klay

No way that will fit in your average hipster skinny jeans pocket with all the stuff sticking out.

I wonder what the film wind lever does? Perhaps that’s the bit that (from their web page) ” …quietly reflects its owner’s confidence in style”

carlosdelbianco

A 113 grams camera is cool, but lens could be faster since the sensor is so tiny. It is a f/16 lens in terms of DOF, isn’t it?

spinningtape

I like it, but what is up with that giant red “14 Megapixels” sign. Totally kills the whole “vintage” fantasy.

carlosdelbianco

I believe it’s just a sticker.

caver3d

What is the actual physical size of the 14 mp sensor? Someone know it?

carlosdelbianco

Crop factor of 5,5 compared to 35mm.

BingoCharlie

There’s already a very nice version of this camera available: the Pentax Q with the 01 Prime Lens. Same size. Great design. Demonstrated quality. Similar pricing. Plus you have interchangeable lenses so the camera can grow with you. Hard to see why someone should choose this over the Q.

ybizzle

Exactly and I have one! Everyone wants to bash the Q but they can’t name a camera that size that has so many features including full manual control in video!

Don Fraser

The Q weighs almost twice as much. Not in the same class (if there is a class!)

BingoCharlie

Right. Clearly nobody should be comparing these two diminutive, prime lens cameras since the Q weighs a whole 84.5 grams more. What was I thinking?

Roland Karlsson

Minox has made these kind of toys for a long time now. Nothing to see here. Please move along.

A really small camera with lots of breakable things sticking off of it. Cool “TOY”. Where do I sign up?
