Grays of Westminster — an award-winning camera shop in the UK — has officially been given a Coat of Arms, marking the first time any camera shop in the world has been given the prestigious honor.

The Coat of Arms was given to the Nikon-only camera shop’s founder Gray Levett by Mr. Robert Noel, the Lancaster Herald of Her Majesty’s College of Arms, at a dinner ceremony held in Pall Mall, London last week.

The final design was a result of much collaboration between Levett and the College of Arms, in an effort to properly signify their role in the photography industry. The entire process, from conceptualizing to creating the final product, took roughly a year.

In regards to receiving the Coat of Arms, Levett said:

I am deeply honoured to receive this singular recognition for Grays of Westminster at the Institute of Directors tonight in the presence of so many key figures of our profession. To be acknowledged by Her Majesty’s College of Arms is something very, very special, and the Coat of Arms will serve as an enduring inspiration for me to continue to offer the very best in service to our Nikon customers.
