Reply to 70D to 5D….but what lens to get?

There are a lot of options, depending on taste, needs and budget.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

Canon 24-105 f/4L IS – You can find amazing deals on the first version of this lens, either used or brand new. It’s amazingly versatile, and probably my most used lens ever. The image stabilization really helps when stopping down to, let’s say, f/11 or so, for maximum depth of field.

Sigma/Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 OS/VC – Haven’t personally used this one, but judging from samples, they are both nice and sharp, and of course brighter than the 24-105. The image stabilization is a big plus! Generally, a bit pricier than the 24-105 as well. Maybe aim for a used copy in that case.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 – Nice, compact, lightweight, and decently sharp allrounder. Pretty much the fullframe equivalent of your tamron 17-50. It lacks image stabilization, however, but can produce pretty nice images.

Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 VC – Ultra-wide to wide bright zoom lens, first version. It’s big and heavy, but has amazing optics. It’s possible to find good deals on this one. Slightly wider than your 10-18, and brighter as well.

A couple of really affordable options, decent quality: Tokina 20-35, Cosina 19-35, Canon 28-105 USM, Canon 24-85 (supposed to be really sharp).

I have an album with photos taken with the 24-105 f/4L IS…

…as well as the Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 VC.

Hope that helps somewhat!
